Housing market: more rentals, fewer sales
Q1 sales tumble 18%

More people on the island are opting to rent, rather than buy, houses and apartments.

According to Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, housing sales tumbled 15 percent year over year in March to about 970. The number of transactions in the first quarter of the year plunged 18 percent.

On the other hand, 680 monthly and yearly rental contracts were signed in March. That pushed the first quarter total up to about 27-hundred, which is 11 percent more than in the first three months of 2016.

Analysts say more people are choosing to rent because of tougher mortgage restrictions and uncertainty in the real estate market.

제주 주택시장에서 매매 거래는 감소한 반면 전월세 임대는 늘고 있습니다.

국토교통부에 따르면 지난달 도내 주택매매거래량은 970여 건으로 지난해 3월보다 15% 줄었고, 1월에서 3월까지 누적 거래량도 지난해 같은기간보다 18% 감소했습니다.

반면 지난달 도내 전월세 거래량은 680여 건, 1분기 누적 거래량은 2천 700여 건으로 지난해보다 각각 11% 늘었습니다.

금융권 주택담보대출 규제가 강화되고 주택시장에 불확실성이 커지면서 구매 대신 임대가 많아진 것으로 부동산 업계는 보고 있습니다.
