Unique rock found on Hallasan Mountain
Only other Korean examples of ‘comendite’ on Baekdusan Mountain

Researchers are intrigued after they found on Hallasan Mountain a type of rock that they had thought only existed in Korea around Baekdusan Mountain.

The Jeju World Natural Heritage Center says its investigations into the mountain and its volcanic activity turned up a 2.3-kilometer long vein of “comendite” that was up to six meters wide. It was found to the southwest of Baengnokdam Crater Lake.

Scientists had previously only known of comendite on Baekdusan, when it was ejected in eruptions 1,000 years ago.

'코멘다이트' 라는 명칭의 암석을 발견했다고 밝혔습니다.

이 암석은 천년 전 백두산 대폭발 당시 분출된 화산암으로 지금껏 한반도에서는 백두산에만 분포하는 것으로 알려져 왔습니다.
