5. Rural Development Administration creating new breed of horse
‘Better suited to beginning Korean riders’

The Rural Development Administration is working on a new breed of riding horse as part of efforts to boost the country’s horseback riding industry.

It is crossing Jeju horses with thoroughbreds. RDA representatives say third generation foals are expected at the end of the month.

Most of the riding horses in Korea are either racing animals or foreign breeds. Their size and temperment make them difficult for beginning riders to handle.

농촌진흥청이 승마 산업을 활성화하기 위해 국내산 승용마를 육성합니다.

이를 위해 제주마와 외국산 더러브렛을 교배한 국내산 승용마를 육성하고 있으며
이달말에도 3세대 망아지가 태어날 예정입니다.

현재 우리나라의 승용말은 대부분 경마용 또는외국 수입산으로 키가 크고 관리가 까다로워 초보자가 타기 어렵다는 단점이 있습니다.
