1. Jeju to host 9th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks
1,200 attendees from 70 countries expected

Jeju will host the 9th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks in 2020.

The Jeju World Heritage Center says the island was selected as the host during the 8th edition of the conference, which was in Italy between September 8th and the 14th.

Global Geopark Network board members had to decide between Jeju and Danxia in China. Jeju garnered six votes to Danxia’s four.

The conference is held every two years. About 12-hundred people from 70 countries are expected to take part when Jeju hosts in 2020.

2020년 세계지질공원 총회 '제주 개최'

오는 2020년 제9차 유네스코 세계지질공원 총회가 제주에서 열립니다.

제주특별자치도 세계유산본부는 지난 8일부터 14일까지 이탈리아에서 열린 제8차 총회 폐막식에서 2020년 9차 총회 개최지로 제주도가 최종 결정됐다고 밝혔습니다.

제주는 경쟁 후보지인 중국 단하산 지역과의 총회 이사회 투표에서 10명 중 6명의 지지를 받아 최종 개최지로 선정됐습니다.

세계지질공원 총회는 2년 마다 열리며 2020년 총회에는 70개국에서 1천 2백명이 제주를 찾을 것으로 예상됩니다.
