Bad weather during summer season cause plummet

The number of beachgoers visiting local beaches have dropped significantly this summer.

This year’s number of visitors at 11 designated beaches in Jeju island stood at 1 million 898 thousand, marking a 22 percent drop compared to last year.

Out of all beaches in the island, Hamdeok beach had the largest number of visitors with 403 thousand, followed by Hyeopjae beach with 347 thousand, Iho beach with 260 thousand, Gwakji Beach with 235 thousand, and Geumneung Beach with 214 thousand people.

Officials explain that the number of visitors fell due to frequent rain and typhoon this year.

Jeju Island plans to deploy life guards until September 8th in case of possible accidents at closed beaches.

올해 제주지역 해수욕장 이용객 급감

올 여름 제주도내 해수욕장 이용객이 크게 줄어든 것으로 집계됐습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면
올해 11개 해수욕장 이용객은 189만 8천명으로
지난해 보다 54만명, 22% 줄어든 것으로 조사됐습니다.

해수욕장별로 보면
함덕이 40만 3천명으로 가장 많고
협재 34만 7천명, 이호 26만명, 곽지 23만 5천명, 금능 21만 4천명 등입니다.

무엇보다 예년에 비해 잦은 비 날씨와
태풍 등 기상 악화에 따른 것으로 풀이되고 있습니다.

폐장한 해수욕장에서의 만일의 사고에 대비해
오는 8일까지 안전통제요원을 배치해 운영할 계획입니다.
