6. JNU works with mushroom farmers to restore Jeju’s shiitake industry
Traditional industry of Jeju to be given business boost

Jeju National University's Life Science and Technology Innovation Center will carry out a project alongside mushroom farmers to foster the shiitake industry in Jeju.

The project, which will be carried out as a consignment business, will include eco-friendly certification and the promotion of a project for the cultivation of shiitake mushrooms in order to restore the reputation of Jeju’s shiitake industry, a traditional industry of the island.

Korea's first record of shiitake mushrooms was documented in the Goryeo Dynasty's "Mokgeun Sigo(목은시고)" as "shiitake mushrooms from Jeju". The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty also describes shiitake mushrooms from Jeju Island being presented to the royal family.

제주표고버섯산업의 명성을 되찾기 위해
표고버섯 재배농가에 대한 친환경인증과 홍보 사업 등이 진행됩니다.

표고 버섯에 대한 국내 최초의 기록은
고려시대 「목은시고」에서
‘제주에서 표고를 가지고 왔다’라는 기록이 남아 있고
조선왕조실록 등에서는
제주산 표고버섯을 왕실에 진상했다고 기록돼 있습니다.
