Majority of islanders in favor of converting foreign language high school
Moving school to urban areas receives most votes

A recent poll has found that residents are in favor of converting the Jeju Foreign Language High School to a general high school system in dong-administrative areas in Jeju City rather than staying at the current location.

A 20-day survey held from July 10th of a total of 1,200 students, teachers, and residents aged 20 or older was conducted in a joint effort by four organizations, including the Jeju branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers' Union, the Jeju Parents' Association for True Education, the Jeju Alternative Research Community and the Jeju Education Hope Network.

All three groups that were surveyed were more in favor of converting the foreign language high school into a general high school in dong-administrative districts than converting it at the current site.

More respondents were in favor of the conversion of the foreign language high school into a public alternative school rather than converting it into a general high school at the current location.

외고 이전 찬성 의견 많아…"공립형 대안학교로 활용"

전교조 제주지부와 참교육제주학부모회,
사단법인 제주대안연구공동체와 제주교육희망네트워크 등 4개 단체가
지난 달 10일부터 20여일 동안
학생과 교원, 그리고 도내 만 20살 이상 도민 1천2백 여명을 대상으로 제주외고의 일반고 전환 방안을 조사한 결과 이 같이 나타났습니다.

조사결과 응답한 학생과 교원, 도민 등 세 집단 모두
외고를 동지역 평준화 일반고로 전환하는데 찬성 의견이
현 위치에서 일반고로 전환되는 것보다 더 많았습니다.

특히 외국어고등학교를 공립형 대안학교로 전환하는 방안이
현 위치에서 일반고로 전환하는 것보다 더 높게 나타났습니다.
