Smishing scam impersonating guidelines for support funds detected
Over 10,000 cases reported

A new smishing scam has been detected that impersonates a guide for the COVID 19 Emergency Support Fund.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service and the National Police Agency, the total number of smishing reports reached over 700,700 cases so far this year, which is more than triple the amount for the same period last year.

The new scam that impersonates the guidelines for the COVID-19 Emergency Support Fund, has affected over 10,700 people.

The Financial Supervisory Service stressed that the text message for the official emergency disaster support fund does not include an Internet link and advised citizens to immediately delete any suspicious messages.

3. 재난지원금 안내 사칭 스미싱 '주의'

코로나19 긴급재난지원금 안내를 사칭한
문자 결제 사기, 스미싱이 기승을 부리면서
각별한 주의가 요구됩니다.

금융감독원과 경찰청 등에 따르면
올들어 지난 달까지 스미싱 신고 건수는
모두 70만 7백여 건으로,
지난해 같은 기간 18만 5천여 건보다
3배 이상 급증했습니다.

특히 코로나19 긴급재난지원금을 사칭한 스미싱도
1만 7백여 건에 달하는 등 피해가 잇따르고 있습니다.

금융감독원 등은
긴급재난지원금 안내 문자에는
인터넷 주소 링크가 포함되지 않는다며,
스미싱이 의심될 경우 클릭하지 말고
즉시 삭제할 것을 당부했습니다.
