Provincial leaders issue statement on revised 4·3 Special Act
Increased hope for ‘complete reconciliation’

Immediately after the passage of a revision to the April 3rd Special Act, provincial leaders held a press conference at the National Assembly.

Governor Won Heeryong, Chairman Joa Nam-Su (좌남수), National Assembly members Oh Young-hun (오영훈), Lee Myeong-soo (이명수), and Oh Im-jong (오임종), Chairman of the Association for the Bereaved Family of 4.3 Incident Victims, expressed hope for a path towards compensation and restoration of honor for victims.

They added that bereaved families will now have the opportunity to reexamine the historical truth of the April 3rd Incident through further investigations.

In particular, they stressed that the passage of the amendment is not an ending, but a new beginning and highlighted that they expect it to become a major milestone in restoring Korea’s history.

The speakers at the press conference promised to do their best to ensure that a national compensation package will be realised.

특히 개정안 통과는 끝이 아니라 새로운 시작이라며
향후 대한민국 과거사 문제에
큰 이정표가 될 것으로 기대한다고 강조했습니다.

앞으로
국가 차원의 현실적 피해보상을 실현하고
진정한 과거사 청산이 이뤄질 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다고 밝혔습니다.
