Super sweet corn to be harvested early next month
Local farmers urged to control insect pests


Super sweet corn which has become a new source of lucrative income is planned to be shipped from early next month.

The Jeju Agricultural Research and Extension Services said that if weather conditions are good, this year’s super sweet corn will be harvested from as early as the beginning of next month. It is seven to ten days earlier than last year.

They urged local farmers to control pests and well manage the breeding of corn, as damage from pests, including Mythimna Separata is expected.

They added that harvesting super sweet corn is better to be finished by 10 a.m., since harvesting corn in the daytime will reduce the quality of the crop during the storage and distribution process.

초당옥수수 내달 초 수확…해충 방제 '유의'

새로운 소득작목으로 주목받고 있는 초당옥수수가
다음달 초부터 출하될 전망입니다.

농업기술원 서부농업기술센터는
올해 초당옥수수는 앞으로 날씨가 좋게 유지될 경우
지난 해 보다 일주일에서 열흘 정도 빠른
다음달 상순부터 수확될 것으로 예상된다고 밝혔습니다.

다만 멸강나방 등 해충 발생이 우려되는 만큼
해충 방제와 철저한 생육관리를 당부했습니다.

또 한낮에 수확하면 저장이나 유통 과정에서 품질이 떨어지기 때문에
오전 10시까지 마무리하는 것이 좋다고 덧붙였습니다.
