Transforming Community

Members of the (중앙동) Jungang-dong, Seogwipo women's society make kimchi at this senior center.
The thick, red seasoning mix is spread onto salted napa cabbages, ready to be stored, and then consumed, throughout the winter.

The kimchi will go to the underprivileged in this community as part of a community regeneration project.

So in a way, this kimchi is also being made with one part of love for neighbors in need.

Area residents in (월평동) Wolpyeong-dong, Seogwipo hosted a special event last week, called the "Zero Waste Picnic".
Single-use items were not allowed at the event.

Members shared tips and know-how on how to reduce waste in everyday life.
Eco-friendly food samplers were offered alongside advice on how to upcycle clothing.

The event was planned and directed by area residents, and while it may have been small, it was still large enough to attract visitors who were interested in the ideas the event had to offer.

The voluntary participation of area residents, as well as their ideas for their neighborhoods, are producing changes in local communities as a part of community regeneration projects.

빨간 소를 먹음직스럽게 버리자
금세 맛깔스러운 김장 김치가 완성됩니다.

도시재생뉴딜 주민공모 사업에 참여해
진행하고 있는
사랑의 김장김치 나눔 행사 입니다.

주변의 어려운 이웃을 위해 담그는 김치인 만큼
그 어느때 보다
정성을 가득 담았습니다.

서귀포시 월평동에서도 주민들이 의미있는 행사를 개최했습니다.

일회용품 없는 축제인, 제로웨이스트 피크닉.

일상생활에서 쓰레기를 줄일 수 있는
다양한 방법을 공유하며
안입는 옷 업사이클링,
친환경 음식 체험 등이 마련됐습니다.

월평동 제로웨이스트 피크닉 역시
주민들이 스스로 기획하고 진행한 행사인 만큼
지역 주민들의 활발한 참여가 이뤄졌습니다.

작은 행사였지만 친환경이라는 취지에 공감하는
참여자와 방문객들의 발길이 잇따랐습니다.

마을의 변화를 이끌어내고 있습니다.
