Jeju education authorities have decided to designate and manage schools with 30 or fewer students as recommended for consolidation or closure.

The Jeju Provincial Office of Education recently drafted a basic plan for fostering future-oriented schools of appropriate size, which includes this measure.

According to the plan, schools designated for consolidation will be considered for mergers, conversion to branch schools, relocation, or, in the case of single-sex schools, conversion to co-ed.

However, a condition for school consolidation is that at least 70% of the parents from the affected schools must agree.
Currently, there are 10 elementary and middle schools with 30 or fewer students.

기본계획에 따르면
통폐합 권장학교로 지정되면
통,폐합이나 분교장 개편,
이전 재배치,
단성학교의 경우 남녀공학 전환 등이 검토됩니다.

다만 학교간 통폐합 조건으로
해당 학교 학부모의 70% 이상 찬성을 조건으로 내걸었습니다.

한편 현재 학생 수가 30명 이하인 초중학교는 10개교에 이릅니다.
