Governor proposes hosting second NK-US summit in Jeju

The 13th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity began Wednesday at the International Convention Center.

Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon, Former U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Governor Won Hee-ryong, and Former Prime Minister of Japan Yasuo Fukuda were among the world leaders and experts on the Korean Peninsula who attended the opening ceremony.

In his opening remarks, Governor Won proposed hosting here in Jeju a second summit between North Korea and the U.S.

Prime Minister Lee gave the keynote. He argued that the recent summit created a strong foundation for peace between North and South Korea and he asked the international community to provide support for the process.

제주포럼 개회…"정상회담 제주 개최 제안"

제13회 제주포럼 개회식이 27일 제주국제컨벤션센터에서 열렸습니다.

개회식에는 이낙연 국무총리와 반기문 전 유엔사무총장, 원희룡 지사, 후쿠다 야스오 전 일본 총리 등 전세계 리더와 한반도 전문가들이 참석했습니다.

원희룡 지사는 개회사를 통해 북한 비핵화를 위한 후속 북미 정상회담의 제주 개최를 제안했습니다.

이낙연 총리는 기조연설에서 정상회담 이후 굳건한 평화프로세스가 마련됐다며 한반도를 평화의 발신지로 바꾸는 대장정에 전세계가 동참해 줄 것을 요청했습니다.
