Local officials want to couple aid with stronger security presence

The task force charged with handling the island’s hundreds of Yemeni refugees met Thursday at the provincial office.

About ten people were on hand for the discussions, including representatives of the provincial government, the Jeju branch of the Korea Immigration Service, the police, and a local immigrants’ center.

The members asked for support in employment, housing, and medical care for the asylum seekers from the relevant government institutions, and they also requested more police patrols around the areas where the Yemenis live, work, and frequent.

The task force will now draw up a comprehensive support plan based on the results of the meeting.

예멘 난민 지원대책 등을 논의할 TF 회의가 28일 오전 제주도청 삼다홀에서 열렸습니다.

회의에는 제주특별자치도와 제주출입국 외국인청, 경찰청, 이주민센터 등에서 10여 명이 참석했습니다.

이들은 예멘인 취업과 주거, 의료 지원을 비롯해 순찰과 치안 분야 등에서 관계기관의 협조를 구하고 의견을 교환했습니다

TF팀은 회의 결과를 토대로 종합지원대책을 수립할 계획입니다.
