Transport ministry, airport critics agree on new group to steer process

The transport ministry and the group opposing the construction of the island’s second airport have agreed to form a review committee to discuss a redo of the site feasibility study for the facility.

Representatives from the two sides announced the plan Tuesday morning at Provincial Office Building 2 during an interim briefing session on the issue.

Representatives from the ministry and the opposition group will select the members of the new committee this week. A second interim briefing session is then planned after consultations with the review committee.

As all discussions to this point about a possible repeat of the site feasibility study have not included the new committee, officials are considering extending the process.

Tuesday’s session was only a general overview of the situation, which is what both sides had agreed to.

국토교통부와 제주 제2공항 반대대책위원회가 제2공항 입지선정 타당성 재조사를 위한 검토위원회 구성에 합의했습니다.

이들은 오늘(11일) 오전 제주도청 2청사에 열린 제2공항 입지선정 타당성 재조사 용역 중간보고회에서 이같은 내용을 포함한 합의안을 발표했습니다.

합의안에 따라 국토부와 반대주민들은 이번주 내로 검토위원회 위원을 선정하고
검토위와 상의를 거쳐 2차 중간보고회를 별도로 열기로 했습니다.

특히 지금까지 검토위 없이 재조사 용역이 진행돼 왔던 만큼 용역 기간을 연장하는 방안도 추가 논의하기로 했습니다.

한편, 오늘 열린 입지선정 타당성 재조사 중간보고회는 양측 합의에 따라 기본적인 쟁점사항 현황만 짚어보는 정도로 간략하게 진행됐습니다.
