3. Conditional approval for new ‘Seobu Middle School’
Ministry of Education wants it built closer to residential area

The national government has approved the provincial education office’s plan to establish a new middle school in Jeju.

Education office representatives say the Ministry of Education performed a central investment review and approved the construction of the tentatively-named Seobu Middle School on the condition that it be built in a different location, specifically somewhere closer to a residential area.

The provincial education office now has to find a new place for the school, and that will disrupt the project timetable. Officials had wanted to begin construction next year and open the new school in 2020.

가칭 '서부중학교' 조건부 인정

제주도교육청이 추진중인 가칭 서부중학교 설립이 조건부로 정부 승인을 받게됐습니다.

제주도교육청은 교육부 중앙투자심사 결과 학교 위치를 변경하는 조건부로 가칭 서부중학교 학교설립을 인정했다고 밝혔습니다

교육부는 현재 제주도교육청이 제출한 학교 설립 예정지를 주택가 인근으로 옮기도록 조건을 달았습니다.

이에 따라 제주도교육청이 당초 학교 설립 예정지를 새롭게 찾아야 하게되면서
내년 착공해 2020년 개교 목표에도 차질이 불가피해졌습니다.
