Discussions resume on changes to local administration

Discussions on reorganizing the island’s administrative system will resume after years of failing to reach a conclusion on the issue.

The provincial government will reactivate its administrative reorganization committee next Thursday and draw up an operational roadmap for the group.

The province will revise the Jeju Special Law next year in accordance with the national government’s comprehensive decentralization plan. Provincial officials say changes to local administration must be discussed alongside that process.

At a recent question and answer session at the provincial council, Governor Won Heeryong said that a new administrative model for the island will be based on sufficient input from the public.

수년 째 결론 내리지 못한 행정체제개편 논의가 다시 시작됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 오는 20일부터 행정체제개편위원회를 재가동하고 향후 운영 방향 등을 담은 로드맵을 마련할 예정입니다.

제주도는 정부의 자치분권 종합계획에 따라 내년에 제주특별법 개정이 이뤄질 예정으로 행정체제 개편 논의도 이에 발 맞춰 진행돼야 한다고 강조했습니다.

원희룡 지사는 지난 도정질문에서 충분한 공론화 과정을 통해 제주형 행정체제 모델을 마련해야 한다고 밝혔습니다.
