Victim compensation, invalidation of military court verdicts among issues

The National Assembly is now discussing an amendment to the April 3rd Incident Special Law.

The proposed changes cover issues such as compensation to incident victims and their families as well as the invalidation of military court verdicts from that period.

During a Tuesday meeting, the Public Administration and Security Committee’s bill screening subcommittee discussed the scale of victim compensation with representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Attendees decided to come up with an alternative plan before their next meeting.

Democratic Party floor leader Hong Young-pyo said Thursday he would try to pass an amendment to the April 3rd Incident Special law during the current regular session of the assembly. He said he would pursue that goal through negotiations with the opposition party, even if that means putting off action on other proposals.

4.3 희생자 유족 배보상과 군사 재판 무효 등을 담은 4.3 특별법 개정안이 국회에서 논의를 본격화하고 있습니다.

국회 행정안전위원회 법안심사소위원회는 지난 11일 회의를 열고 기획재정부와 4.3 희생자 배보상 규모 등을 협의했고 기재부는 다음 심사까지 대안을 마련하기로 한 것으로 알려졌습니다.

한편 더불어민주당 홍영표 원내대표는 13일 국회에서 다른 법안을 양보하더라도 야당과 협상하면서 이번 정기 국회 내에 4.3 특별법 개정안을 처리할 수 있도록 노력하겠다고 강조했습니다.
