Unemployment rate up to 2.7%

Jeju’s employment rate is not getting any better.

The Jeju branch of the Honam Regional Statistics Office says the local employment rate was 68.3 percent last month. That’s 7 points higher than the national rate, but it’s 1.9 percent below where it stood a year earlier.

Meanwhile, the local unemployment rate was up 0.9 percent over the same period to 2.7 percent.

Researchers blame the slowdown on the anemic local construction sector.

제주지역의 고용시장이 개선되지 않고 있습니다.

호남지방통계청 제주사무소에 따르면 지난달 제주지역의 고용률은 68.3%로 전국 평균 61.2%에 비해 7% 포인트 높았습니다.

하지만 지난해 같은 기간과 비교하면 1.9% 하락했습니다.

제주지역 실업률 역시 2.7%로 1년 전보다 0.9% 상승한 것으로 나타났습니다.
