Province to integrate management of farming and residential water

The provincial government will combine its management of water for agricultural purposes with water for residential use.

Officials said Wednesday during the final meeting on water management that they would solve water shortage problems through an integrated management plan.

The same quality standard will be applied to both types of water. That will allow excess supplies of residential water to be used for farming purposes. Officials say this will also prevent the sprawling development of underground wells.

Authorities plan to finalize the plan by the end of the year after listening to the opinions and concerns of area residents.

제주특별자치도가 농업용수와 생활용수를 통합 관리합니다.

제주도는 14일 열린 수자원관리종합계획 최종 보고회에서 농업용수와 생활용수를 통합 관리해 반복되는 물 부족 문제를 해결하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

동일한 수질 기준을 적용해 통합관리하면 생활용수 여유분을 농업용수로 공급할 수 있게 돼 무분별한 지하수 관정 개발도 막을 수 있다고 강조했습니다.

제주도는 주민 의견을 수렴한 뒤 연말까지 수자원관리종합계획을 확정하기로 했습니다.
