3. Unemployment benefits surpass ￦64b in 2018
30% higher than in 2017

In more news on the job front, local unemployment benefits last year surpassed 60 billion won for the first time ever.

The provincial government says the total hit 64.4 billion won, which is 30 percent more than in 2017. The number of beneficiaries increased over the same period from 12,000 to 13,600.

Local officials blame the situation on a poor local employment situation and the recent minimum wage increase.


지난해 실업급여 640억 원…사상 최다

지난해 도내 실업급여 지급액이 처음으로 6백억 원을 넘었습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 지난해 도내 실업급여 지급액은 644억 원으로 전년 대비 30%, 약 150억 원이 증가했습니다.

도내 실업급여 수급자도 지난 2017년 1만 2천 명에서 지난해 1만 3천 600명으로
1천 6백명 이상 늘었습니다.

제주도는 도내 고용 상황이 좋지 않고 최저임금 인상 여파로 실업자가 늘면서
실업급여 수급자와 지급액도 증가했다고 설명했습니다.
