3. Bigger push to make Jeju off-season training destination
Athletic teams last year ‘had ￦180b economic effect’

The provincial government is trying harder to promote Jeju as an off-season training location for athletic teams.

A task force is being formed with representatives from the province, the island’s two cities, athletic associations, and tourism associations. The group will work on systematic support for the effort, from convincing teams to come to the island to helping them actually train here.

Also, local authorities will make use of the Center for Sport Science that opened last month to provide the athletes who come to the island with psychological counseling, fitness evaluations, exercise prescriptions, and other services.

About 93,000 athletes trained off-season in Jeju last year. Analysts estimate their economic effect at 180 billion won.

제주도와 행정시, 체육회, 관광협회간 태스크포스팀을 구성해 운영합니다.

또 지난달 개관한 스포츠과학센터를 활용해 제주를 찾는 선수들의 심리상담과 체력측정, 운동처방, 기록유지관리 분석 등을 지원합니다.

한편 지난해 제주를 찾은 전지훈련단은 9만 3천여명으로 이로 인한 경제효과는 1천 800억원대로 추산됐습니다.
