More court cases being filed as land prices rise

As real estate prices rise, more lawsuits are filed every year to determine land ownership.

Jeju City officials say the number of state litigations regarding land ownership jumped from 9 in 2016 to 18 in 2017 and to 76 last year.

90 percent of the unregistered plots involved in the litigations have a grave.

City officials say that it’s often the case that after graves were moved, the land was neglected and left unregistered. As land prices increase, more people are seeking to exercise their property rights by filing suit.

미등기 토지 국가소송 증가…90%는 묘지

제주지역 부동산 가격이 급등함에 따라 미등기 토지의 소유권을 확인하기 위한 소송이 해마다 늘고 있습니다.

제주시에 따르면 미등기 토지 관련 국가 소송은 2016년 9건, 2017년 18건에서
지난해 76건으로 급증했습니다.

소송이 제기된 미등기 토지의 90%는 묘지가 있는 곳으로 소유권 분쟁이 잇따르고 있습니다.

제주시는 매장된 묘지를 이장한 뒤 미등기 토지로 방치하다가 부동산 가격 상승에 따라 재산권을 행사하기 위해 소송이 늘어난 것으로 분석했습니다.
