1. Airport protesters cite 'insufficient' impact study
Two groups to block briefing session on July 11

Two second airport opposition committees held a press conference at the provincial council on Tuesday and argued that an environmental impact assessment on the island’s new airport conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is insufficient.

Committee members said that the ministry had scaled back the survey area and that no summer ecological study had been conducted.

They also stressed that the survey on caves in the planned site of the construction is unreliable, as it relies on literary references and is limited to rudimentary field research.

They announced that they will block the assessment briefing session scheduled on July 11th.

Another anti-2nd airport committee comprised of residents in Onpyeong-ri, Seongsan-eup held a rally in front the provincial government office during which they shaved their heads in protest. This symbolic gesture is meant to emphasize demands that construction of the new airport cease.

국토부의 제2공항 전략환경영향평가가 부실하다고 주장했습니다.

특히 조사 범위를 축소했고
여름철 동식물 식생조사도 하지 않았다고 말했습니다.

또 예정지내 동굴 조사도 문헌에 의존하거나
기초적인 현장 조사 수준에 그쳐 신뢰할 수 없다고 강조했습니다.

반대측은

원천봉쇄 하겠다고 밝혀 찬반 충돌이 우려됩니다.

한편 성산읍 온평리비상대책위원회도
도청 앞에서 집회를 열고
주민 삭발식을 하며 제2공항 철회를 촉구했습니다.
