Local population increases by only 900 people

Jeju's annual birth rate has fallen to a new low.

According to the Honam Regional Statistics Office, the number of babies born in Jeju last year was 4,800, a 4.7 percent decrease compared to the previous year.

This is the lowest number in history since the beginning of statistical records from 1981.

This year the number of births recorded through June of this year is 2,300. This is 5.6 percent less than 2018.

The island showed a small population increase of 900 people, which was calculated by subtracting crude deaths from crude births. This total is 1,000 fewer people than in 2016.

전년 대비 4.7% 감소했습니다.

이는 1981년 관련 통계를 시작 이후 역대 최저치입니다.

올해 역시 6월까지 출생아수가 2천 3백여 명으로
지난해보다 5.6% 줄면서 감소세를 이어가고 있습니다.

지난해 출생아에서 사망자를 뺀 자연 증가인구는 9백 명으로
지난 2016년 1천 9백여 명에 비해 1천명 이상 감소했습니다.
