Institute points out a need for further EIA

In related news, Korea Environment Institute said the planned site of the island’s second airport is ‘inadequate’ and highlighted a need to seek alternatives.

KEI stated in its review of the environment impact assessment of the basic plan of the second airport that the feasibility of the planned site is very low as facilities such as migratory bird sanctuaries, orchards and pig farms are located near the planned site of the new airport.

The institute stressed the need to further analyze the risk of aircraft and bird collisions and noise pollution.

It also advised to compare review the current plan and alternatives and seek islanders’ opinions.

부적정한 시설물이 인접해 있어
입지적 타당성이 매우 낮다고
분석했습니다.

또 항공기와 조류 충돌 위험성 분석과
소음 피해에 대한 추가 조사도
이뤄져야 한다고 강조했습니다.

이에 따라 현 사업계획 외에
추가 대안과의 비교 검토가 필요하고
주민 수용성 확보 방안도
충분히 수행해야 한다고 조언했습니다.
