Number of tourists continues to increase, not reflected in profits
Shift in patterns of consumption due to COVID-19

A growing number of tourists have been traveling to Jeju despite the COVID-19 crisis, but the increase in numbers is not being reflected in the tourism industry.

During an administrative affairs auditing session of the Provincial Council’s Culture, Tourism and Sports Committee, the Jeju Tourism Association Chairman, Bu dong-suk (부동석) said that although the number of tourists to Jeju is relatively high, the patterns of consumption has changed, which is hindering an increase in profits.

Councilors pointed out that Jeju Island's tourism bureau lacked responsiveness to changing travel trends, and advised the need for countermeasures, as trips like RV leisures, camping, and hiking tours are becoming increasingly popular.

Provincial councilors added that since the tourism industry has changed greatly due to the COVID-19 crisis, the province must find new opportunities and take preemptive action.

코로나 사태 속에서도 제주지역에 많은 관광객들이 입도하고 있지만
관광업계의 체감은 나아지지 않고 있다는 지적입니다.

이전과 전혀 달라지면서
업계의 이익으로 이어지지 않고 있다며
관광업에 종사하는 도민들의 어려움이 가중되고 있다고 말했습니다.

의원들 역시 개별관광객 위주의 여행으로 차박이나 캠핑,
오름 탐방 등이 유행하고 있지만,
제주도 관광국의 현장 대응성이 상당히 떨어진다며
이에 대한 대책마련이 필요하다고 지적했습니다.

이와 함께 코로나 사태에 따라 크게 변화한 관광시장에서 기회를 찾고
선제적으로 대응할 필요가 있다고 덧붙였습니다.
