Japan announces the release of contaminated water from Fukushima into ocean
Jeju called on to take countermeasures accordingly

Amidst a recent announcement from Japan on the disposal of radioactive water from Fukushima's nuclear power plant into ocean waters, the Jeju Research Institute pointed out that Jeju should prepare countermeasures accordingly.

The JRI explained that the contaminated water released into the sea from Japan will enter Korea's oceans via the (쿠로시오) Kuroshio Current. The contaminated water will eventually cause marine life death and damage to the fisheries industry.

Accordingly, they stressed that the province should prepare for countermeasures by implementing an investigative cooperation system with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and establishing a Jeju Marine Environment Observation Center.


2. "후쿠시마 오염수 방류 대응책 마련해야"

일본이
후쿠시마 원전 방사성물질 오염수를
바다에 방류하겠다는 입장을 밝힌 가운데
제주에서도 이에 따른 대응 방안을
마련해야 한다는 지적이 나왔습니다.

제주연구원은 일본이
방사성 오염수를 바다에 방류할 경우
쿠로시오 해류를 따라 우리나라 해상에
가장 먼저 유입된다며,
결국 방사능 오염으로 해양 생물 폐사,
수산업 피해 등을 일으킬 거라고 설명했습니다.

이에 따라 제주도 차원에서
해양수산부와 조사 협력 체계를 만들고
제주 해양환경관측센터를 구축하는 등
대응 준비에 나서야 한다고 강조했습니다.
