Jeju pushing forward to host UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
1 million signature collecting campaign promoted

The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province is promoting a 1 million signature collecting campaign to host the 28th UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The signing campaign will be conducted online and offline simultaneously open for all citizens until the first half of next year when the host city is confirmed.

The Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is the largest international environmental conference where 197 members meet each year to discuss the agendas. More than 20,000 people including government delegations will participate.

The Ministry of Environment plans to open a competition for host cities when the conference in 2023 is confirmed to be held in Korea.


3. UN기후변화협약 당사국총회 유치 서명운동 본격

제주특별자치도가
제28차 UN기후변화협약 당사국총회 제주 유치를 위해
100만인 서명운동을 본격 추진합니다.

이번 서명운동은 전 국민을 대상으로
개최도시가 확정되는 내년 상반기까지
온라인과 오프라인 방식으로 병행해 진행됩니다.

UN기후변화협약 당사국총회는
매년 197개 당사국이 모여 협약 이행을 위한 의제를 논의하는
최대 규모의 국제 환경회의로
정부 대표단 등 2만여 명이 참여합니다.

한편 환경부는
올해 총회에서 2023년 28차 총회 개최국이 우리나라로 확정되면
개최도시를 공모할 계획입니다.
