Trial Wave Power Generators

A pilot project of wave power generators that generate power from the waves colliding with the breakwaters in Chuja-do Island will be pushed forward.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries held a ceremony for a 30-kilowatt demonstration breakwater Wave Plant
at a port in (추자도) Chuja-do Island where the plant
has launched its operation.

The wave power technology used for the plant was
developed in (용수리) Yongsu-ri, (한경면) Hangyeong-myeon in 2016.
Power generators are attached to breakwaters and
have been upgraded so that they can withstand strong waves
and generate power with weaker waves as well.

The ministry said that technology has developed into
its testing stage and plans to expand supply of the plants
to ports across the country after the trial is complete in 2027.

추자도에서
방파제에 부딪히는
파도의 힘을 활용한 발전 시스템 실증 사업이 추진됩니다.

해수부는 추자도 묵리포구항에서
30킬로와트급 방파제 연계형 파력발전 실증플랜트 준공식을 열고
본격 운영에 들어갔습니다.

이번 사업은 지난 2016년 한경면 용수리에 구축한 파력발전 기술을 기반으로
발전기를 방파제에 부착해 거센 파도에 견딜 수 있게 안정성을 높였고
작은 파도에서도 발전이 가능하도록 했습니다.

해수부는 이번 기술개발로 국내 파력발전 기술이 시제품 단계로 진전됐다며
오는 2027년 시범 운용을 마치면
전국 어항과 항만 방파제에 보급을 확대할 계획입니다.
