Yellowtail Festival Returns

The Southernmost Yellowtail Festiva l is one of the island's top marine festivals that welcomes more than 150,000 visitors each year.
Following a cancellation of the event last year due to the pandemic, the autumn event will be held this year with the ease in COVID-19 restrictions.

As the nation's 'living with COVID-19" policy allows communities to restore most of their pre-pandemic lives, the Southernmost Yellowtail Festival is taking place.
People are standing in line, and eyes are on the anchored fishing boat.
Fishermen are carrying yellowtail fish which are in season from the boat to the fish tank.
Vehicles come to a stop at the festival venue.
Drivers order dishes of raw fish.
Ready to eat dishes are passed from area residents.


The drive-through festival is a new approach to an event due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation.
At the kitchen, area residents bring leaping fish to the cutting table from the fish tank to cut them up.


The price for a plate of raw yellowtail fish is set at 10,000 won at the festival.
It's lower than the market price.


Visitors can also buy dishes from the comfort and safety of their car.


The Southernmost Yellowtail Festival is being held to help fishermen and the local economy which has been struggling from reduced fish consumption, and will continue through the end of this month.

마을 주민들은 손질된 방어를 건넵니다.

조리장에서는
마을 주민들이 갓잡아 펄떡거리는 방어를
임시수조에서 꺼내 손질을 이어갑니다.

방어는 한접시에 1만 원.
시세보다 저렴하게 가격이 책정됐습니다.


방어를 저렴하게 구입할 수 있다보니
워킹 스루로 구매하려는 사람들의 줄도 길게 이어졌습니다.

2년 만에 마련된 이번 최남단 방어축제는 이달 말까지 이어집니다.
