Illegal Overseas Fishing Vessels

Following the lifting of the fishing restriction season in China last September, the number of Chinese vessels illegally fishing in South Korea’s oceans has surged.

On the 18th at around 10:40 p.m. a vessel was captured
154 kilometers west of Chagwido, as the vessel was illegally fishing
without an entry notification.

Vessels have continued with illegal fishing recently using
tightly weaved nets that are illegal which are estimated to
have grid sizes that exceed 50mm and
to have forged their fishery documents by recording their catch
much less than their actual numbers.

So far 19 Chinese fishing vessels have been caught for
illegal fishing this year in Jeju.




우리 해상서 중국어선 불법 조업 '기승'

지난 9월부터 금어기가 해제되면서
우리나라 어업협정 내측 해상에서
중국어선들의 불법 조업이 기승을 부리고 있습니다.

18일 10시 40분쯤에는
우리나라 내측 해상인 차귀도 서쪽 154km 해상에서
입역신고 없이 불법 조업을 하던 중국어선 1척이 해경에 나포됐습니다.

불법 조업을 하는 어선들이 잇따라 적발되는 가운데
해당 어선들은 허가 규정인 50m보다 촘촘한 그물망을 이용하거나
어획량을 일부러 줄여 기록하는 등
조업일지도 제대로 작성하지 않고 있습니다.

올들어 제주에서 불법 조업을 하다가 나포된 중국어선은
모두 19척입니다.
