Child Abuse on the Increase

A seven month old infant was severely injured during a fight by its parents.
In the struggle, the husband pushed his wife and the baby sustained internal injuries.

The baby's pancreas, a kidney, and ribs were affected.
Sadly, the child lost the kidney.

The abuse case is pending in court and the first trial will begin on December 16.

Back in February of this year, a case of ongoing child abuse was discovered at a local public daycare center.

Teachers at the daycare center allegedly assaulted about 20 children between one and two years of age. The incidents, which number in the hundreds, began approximately three months earlier in November 2020.

The director and nine teachers have been arrested. Of these, three are in police custody.
The case is now working its way through the court and is the largest case of child abuse in the nation.

This is a post written by a mom on an online community. She revealed frequent child abuse by teachers at another local daycare center.

A police investigation revealed that 11 children were maltreated nearly 400 times in July and August of this year. The director and a teacher have been arrested.


In the first 10 months of this year, some 402 cases of child abuse were reported to police. That's nearly a 70 percent increase compared to all of last year.


Police have arrested 111 suspects for abusing children under the age of 10.
Some of the victims have been taken away from their parents as an emergency measure.

Police emphasize that child abuse is not limited to physical violence. Any form of maltreatment by an adult, be it violence or threats against a child, constitutes abuse.

Child abuse cannot be considered merely a family's business, but rather, a growing social problem.

해당 어린이집 교사들은
지난해 11월부터 3개월 동안
원아 20여 명을
수백차례에 걸쳐 상습 학대한 혐의를 받고 있습니다.

기소된 인원만
원장과 교사 등 10명에 이르고 있고
이 가운데 3명은
구속된 상태에서 재판을 받고 있습니다.

전국에서 가장 큰 규모의 아동학대사건으로 기록되고 있습니다.

조사 결과
지난 7월부터 두 달 동안
원아 11명을
400회 가까이 학대한 혐의로 보육교사와 원장이 검거됐습니다.


올들어 지난달까지 112로 접수된 아동학대 신고는 모두 402건으로,
지난해보다 70% 가까이 늘었습니다.


경찰은 이 가운데
10살 미만 아동을 학대한 혐의로 111명을 검거했습니다.

일부는 가해자와
피해 아동을 분리하는 임시조치를 취하기도 했습니다.

경찰은
아동을 신경질적으로 대하거나
밀치는 행위 등 역시
경우에 따라
학대에 해당할
수 있다며 명심해야 한다고 당부했습니다.

아동 학대는
단순히 가정이나 해당 집단의 문제를 떠나
사회 전반적인 문제로 확대되고 있어
근절을 위한
모두의 관심이 필요하다는 지적이 커지고 있습니다.
