Man Sentenced for Violence

Jeju District Court has given a 32-year old defendant surnamed Kim a 3-year prison sentence for threatening his girlfriend by harming himself with a weapon, in addition to choking and hitting her until she lost consciousness at her house in August last year, after she asked to break up.

In explaining its decision,
The defendant had stunned the victim again after she called the police.
And when the police arrived, the defendant spoke as if nothing had happened which left huge psychological and physical damage to the victim.

The court also said that a longer prison sentence was inevitable given the fact that the defendant had been sentenced to imprisonment for a similar charge in the past.

제주지방법원 제2형사부 장찬수 부장판사는
지난해 8월
헤어지자는 여자친구의 집에 찾아 흉기로 자해하고
여자친구의 목을 조르고 폭행해
수차례 기절시킨 혐의 등으로 기소된
32살 김 모 피고인에게 징역 3년을 선고했습니다.

재판부는 판결문에서
특히 피해자가 경찰에 신고하자 다시 실신시켜
출동한 경찰관에게 아무일 없다는 듯이 진술하는 등
신체적.정신적으로 큰 충격을 줬고
과거에도 연인이었던 사람에게
이같은 범행을 저질러 실형을 선고받은 전력이 있어
상당기간 징역형의 선고가 불가피하다고 판시했습니다.
