Man Sentenced for Dine-and-Dash

The Jeju District Court has given a 46-year old defendant surnamed Kim a 14-month in prison with medical treatment and custody for charges of picking fights with strangers for no reason and for dining and dashing habitually.

In explaining its decision, the court announced that the defendant
had repeatedly conducted crimes in a short period of time
and no efforts have been made for criminal consent as of yet.

However, the court also added
that they considered that the defendant conducted the crimes
while suffering from a chronic mental disease.

제주지방법원 제2형사부 장찬수 부장판사는
아무런 이유없이 길가던 행인들에게 시비를 거는가 하면
상습적으로 술집에서 음식을 시킨 후
돈을 지불하지 않는 혐의로 기소된 46살 김 모 피고인에게
징역 1년 2월과 함께
치료감호를 선고했습니다.

재판부는 판결문에서
누범기간중에 반복적으로 행패를 부리고
피해회복을 위한
아무런 노력을 하지 않았지만
만성적인 정신질환으로 심신 미약 상태에서
이 사건 범행에 이르게 된 점을 감안해 이같이 선고한다고 판시했습니다.
