Degrade of Indoor Mask Madate
The obligation to wear a mask indoors will be eased to recommendation, which has been mandatory for two years.
The government made the decision after consultation with experts.
It has been about two years since October 2020, when Seoul decided to impose a fine for not wearing a mask.

Following the outdoors, we will switch the indoor mask mandate to a recommendation to wear a mask voluntarily. The level of the mandate will be adjusted in consideration of the pandemic situation and the risks of each facility type.
Accordingly, indoor mask mandate will be eased to recommendation, except for medical institutions, pharmacies, social welfare facilities, and public transportation, which are vulnerable to infection.
The timing of the adjustment has not been confirmed yet.
Mask mandate level will be determined after discussing the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters when two or more of the four criteria in the number of infected patients, the number of critically ill or death, medical response capacity and immunization of high-risk groups are satisfied.
Criteria for the indicators are also presented, but Jeju does not meet the criteria except for the bed utilization rate.
The government says it will observe a pandemic trend for two weeks after mid-January, when the seventh epidemic is expected to pass its peak, and if the decline is observed, the timing of the mask requirement adjustment can be discussed.
As some regions, including (대전) Daejeon and South (충청) Chungcheong Province, reviewed the lifting indoor mask requirements and caused confusion, the government decides to implement the eased measures at the same time across the nation.
The adjustment to removing the mask requirements at all type of facilities will be decided to be implemented when the COVID-19 crisis stage goes down from serious to alert or caution, or when it is lowered from infectious disease level 2 to level 4.

실외에 이어 실내에서도 마스크를 자발적으로 착용하도록 권고로 전환하되, 코로나19 유행 상황과 시설별 위험성 등을 고려하여 단계적으로 조정하겠습니다.
이에 따라 감염 취약시설인 의료기관과 약국, 사회복지시설,
그리고 대중교통 수단을 제외한 실내에서는
마스크 착용을 권고로 전환하는 1단계 조정이 시행됩니다.
조정 시점은 아직 확정되지 않았습니다.
환자 발생 추이와 위중증 또는 사망자 발생 감소,
의료역량 안정화, 고위험군 면역 획득 같은
4개 자료 가운데
2개 이상 충족할 때 중대본 논의를 거쳐 시행하기로 결정했습니다.
해당 지표에 대한 참고치도 제시했는데
현재 제주 지역은
병상 가동률을 제외하곤
기준을 충족하지 못하고 있습니다.
정부는 이번 7차 유행이 정점을 지날 것으로 예상되는
1월 중순 이후 2주간 관찰하면서
감소세가 확인되면
1단계 조정 시점을 논의할 수 있다고 전망했습니다.
대전과 충남 등 일부 지역에서 먼저 해제 조치를 검토하면서
혼란을 빚은 만큼 정부는 지자체 구분 없이 동시에 시행하기로 했습니다.
모든 시설에서 마스크 착용을 해제하는 2단계 조정은
코로나19 위기 단계가
심각에서 경계 또는 주의로 내려가거나
감염병 등급이
2급에서 4급으로 하향 조정되면 시행하는 것으로 결정했습니다.
