The government has decided to downgrade the indoor mask mandate to a recommendation level depending on COVID-19 trend and number of seriously ill patients.

The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters announced on the 23rd its plans to downgrade the indoor mask mandate to a recommendation. The adjustment will be made in phases considering the COVID-19 epidemic trends and risk level per facility.

The first phase will be implemented when two out of four indicators, including stabilization of patient occurrence, reduction of critical deaths, medical response capabilities, and high-risk immunity levels are met.

The mask mandate excludes vulnerable facilities including public transportation and medical institutions.

The second phase which is a full lift of the mask mandate will be implemented
when the COVID-19 crisis stage transfers from from serious to alert or caution levels, or when the legal communicable disease level for COVID-19 falls to level 4.

정부가 실내 마스크 착용 의무를 권고로 전환하는 방침을 정하고 확진자와 위중증 추이를 보면서 적용 시점을 결정하기로 했습니다.



중앙재난안전대책본부는 지난 23일 브리핑에서 전문가 토론회 등 의견 수렴 결과 실내 마스크 착용 의무를 권고로 전한하되, 코로나 유행 상황과 시설별 위험성 등을 고려해
단계적으로 조정할 방침이라고 밝혔습니다.



조정 1단계는 환자 발생 안정화와 위중증 사망자 감소, 의료대응 역량과 고위험군 면역 수준 등
4개 지표 가운데 2개 이상 충족할 때 시행하는 것으로 결정했습니다.


다만 의료기관 같은 감염 취약시설과 대중교통수단은 제외하기로 했습니다.


모든 시설에서 마스크 착용 의무를 면제하는 조정 2단계는 코로나19 위기 단계가 심각에서 경계 또는 주의로 내려가거나 법정감염병 2급에서 4급으로 하향 조정할 때 시행하는 것으로 의견을 모았습니다.
