Landmines on roads, Potholes


The road in Jeju City is hollowed out.

As the road breaks and cracks, large holes are created in the surface.


They are potholes, referred to as landmines on the road.

Drivers who identify the holes right before them are trying to slow down.

On a two-lane road, it is difficult to avoid a pothole due to the narrow width of the road, which is likely to lead to an accident.

The situation is no different on (연북로) Yeonbuk-ro, which has a lot of traffic.


The road is cracked as if it would split at any moment.


(연북로) Yeonbuk-ro is a busy road where vehicles run fast, so if a driver changes lanes suddenly to avoid a pothole, it can lead to a serious accident.

Potholes cause problems on a road. I hope they are filled soon.


Thousands of potholes are filled every year in Jeju.
The number of potholes is increasing from December's weather conditions.


In winter, the ground repeatedly freezes and melts because of the large daily temperature gap, which weakens the ground.
Calcium chloride sprayed for snow removal further damages the roads, fueling cracking.

When a pothole is found after the snow removal work, it is filled with a quick asphalt recovery agent as a temporary measure and if many potholes are found on a spot, they are fully repaved.


As the heavy snow caused multiple potholes on local roads across the island, quick action is required to ensure driver safety.




폭설 후 도로위 지뢰 포트홀 ‘위험천만’


제주시내 한 도로가 움푹 파여 있습니다.

부서지고 갈라지면서 곳곳에 구멍이 생겼습니다.
도로 위의 지뢰라 불리는 포트홀입니다.

달려오던 차량들은 뒤늦게 포트홀을 확인하고 속도를 줄여봅니다.
왕복 2차선 도로의 경우 좁은 도로 폭으로 포트홀을 피하기 어려워
사고로 이어질 가능성이 큽니다.

차량 통행이 많은
제주시 연북로도 상황은 마찬가지입니다.

도로가 금방이라도 갈라질 듯
곳곳에 균열이 생겼습니다.

차량들이 빠르게 달리는 곳이라
포트홀을 피해
급하게 차선을 바꿀 경우
자칫 위험한 사고로 이어질 수 있습니다.

포트홀이 있어서 운전하는데 지장이 많아요. 빨리 시정했으면 좋을 것 같네요.

제주에서는
매년 수천건의 포트홀 복구가 이뤄지는데
지난 주말 내린 폭설로
포트홀은 더욱 늘어나고 있습니다.

겨울에는 큰 일교차로 인해
땅이 얼었다 녹기를 반복하면서 지반이 약해집니다.

이런 가운데 제설을 위해 뿌린
염화칼슘이 도로를 더욱 손상시켜
포트홀 발생을 부추기고 있습니다.

제설 작업 후 등에 포트홀이 생길 경우 아스팔트 응급 복구제인 포대 아스콘으로 임시방편으로 응급 조치하고 한 장소에 여러 곳이 생길 경우는 도로 포장을 해 안전 운행을 할 수 있도록 하고 있습니다.


폭설로 포트홀이 동시다발적으로 발생하면서
운전자 안전 확보를 위한
발 빠른 조치가 요구되고 있습니다.
