Despite the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, domestic duty-free shops in Jeju recorded the highest sales ever.

According to the Jeju Free International City Development Center, sales of duty-free shops designated by JDC Jeju Airport recorded 658.47 billion won last year.

This is the first time sales have exceeded 600 billion won since its opening in 2021, renewing its all-time high.

The Jeju Tourism Organization's designated duty-free shop at the Jeju International Convention Center in the Jungmun Tourism Complex also recorded 53.9 billion won last year, up 6.73% from the previous year.

Studies showed the main reason for the spike in sales was due to Koreans turning to Jeju as they were not able to travel overseas.

코로나19 위기 속에서도 제주지역 내국인 면세점들이 역대 최고 매출액을 기록했습니다.

제주국제자유도시개발센터에 따르면 지난해 JDC 제주공항 지정면세점 매출액은 6천584억 7천여 만원을 기록했습니다.

이는 지난 2021년 개점 이후 처음 매출액 6천억원을 넘어선 데 이어 역대 최고치를 다시 갱신한 것입니다.

중문관광단지 내 제주국제컨벤션센터에 있는 제주관광공사 지정면세점도 지난해 539억여 원을 기록해 전년보다 6.73％ 증가했습니다.

제주지역 지정면세점이 호황을 누린 이유는 코로나19로 해외로 나가지 못하는 내국인들이 제주로 쏠렸기 때문으로 분석됩니다.
