Taekwondo Passion Returns


There is a heightened sense of tension in the stadium.
Competing athletes exchange lightning fast kicks.

The 18th Jeju Peace National Taekwondo Championship has begun.
More than 2,000 athletes are participating this year.
Since this is the first national stage to test their skills following winter off-season training, the athletes are determined to do their best.

It's my second time participating in this competition. I wasn’t happy with my performance last year. I’ll try to have a better record this year.

My performance last year wasn’t great. But I believe I’ll have better results this year as I’m more prepared.


The sparring competition and basic techniques of attack and defense event known as (품새) Poomsae are currently underway at Jeju Halla Gymnasium and the Jeju Gymnasium Complex through January 15.


As social distancing measures have been lifted, spectators including enthusiastic parents are for the first time in three years allowed to enter the stadium to watch the competition.
Enthusiastic cheering has returned to the event.

It’s good to watch the competition in person at this stadium. I hope my child gets a good result.

KCTV Jeju, which co-hosts the competition with the Korea Taekwondo Association, is broadcasting the main tournament and competition live nationwide.


Competition between middle and high school students will be broadcast in cooperation with the sports television channels, MBC Sports Plus and IB Sports.

겨울 전지훈련을 통해 단련한 기량을 시험하는
첫 전국 무대인만큼
출전 선수들의 각오는 새롭습니다.

제주 평화기는 두번째 출전인데 작년 대회는 성적이 부진해서 이번 연도에는 후회없이 경기하고 (돌아)가도록 하겠습니다.

작년에는 성적이 좀 안 좋아서 더 준비를 많이 해서 이번에는
더 좋은 성적 기대하고 있습니다.


오는 15일까지 열리는 이번 대회는
제주종합경기장 한라체육관과
복합체육관에서 겨루기와 품새 대회로 나눠 진행되고 있습니다.

특히 사회적 거리두기 해제로 3년 만에 경기장 관람이 허용되면서
학부모를 비롯해
동료 선수들의 뜨거운 응원전도 부활했습니다.

(경기장에서) 관람을 하니까 운동하는거 봐서 좋고 우리 아이 좋은 성적 거뒀으면 좋겠습니다.
