Half of the fires involving personal mobility devices in Jeju were found to occur during charging.

According to Jeju, over the past five years, 16 out of 34 fires, accounting for 47%, happened during battery charging.

The fire department explains that lithium-ion batteries used in personal mobility devices can easily catch fire if overcharged, posing a risk of re-ignition.

Charging near residential areas can escalate fire risks, potentially spreading to surroundings. Thus, it's vital to practice caution, avoiding overcharging and promptly disconnecting power post charging.

개인형 이동장치 화재는 34건으로
이 가운데 47%인 16건이
배터리 충전 도중 발생했다고 밝혔습니다.

개인형 이동장치에 들어가는 리튬이온배터리는
과충전 시 내부가 손상돼 불이 날 수 있고
재발화 위험도 크다고 소방은 설명했습니다.

특히 주택가 현관에서 충전하다
불이 나면 주변으로 확산될 수 있기 때문에
과충전을 하지 말고 충전이 완료되면
반드시 전원을 분리해달라고 당부했습니다.
