A year after mandatory stops on right turns at intersections were implemented, reports indicate no decrease in accidents or casualties, prompting the National Police Agency to emphasize its commitment to enhanced accident prevention measures.

Jeju Police Commissioner Lee Chung-ho(이충호) stated that pedestrian traffic accidents have been trending downward nationwide since the implementation.
Lee stressed that efforts to cultivate a traffic culture will reduce the number of accidents.

Since the rule was implemented in April last year, approximately 230 traffic accidents have occurred in Jeju. This marks a rise in both accidents and injuries compared to prior statistics, thus igniting debates over its efficacy.



우회전 정지 '실효성' 논란…"사고 예방 대응 강화"

교차로 우회전 정지 시행 1년이 지나도
차량 사고와 인명 피해가 줄지 않고 있다는 언론 지적에 경찰청이 사고 예방 대응을 강화하겠다고 강조했습니다.

이충호 제주경찰청장은 출입기자 간담회에서
우회전 정지 시행 이후 전국적으로 보행자 교통사고 감소 추세라면서 앞으로 교통문화가 정착하는데
경찰이 더욱 노력하고 이를 통해 교차로 전체 사고도 줄어들기를 바란다고 밝혔습니다.

한편 지난해 4월 교차로 우회전 정지 시행 이후
제주에서 발생한 교통사고는 230여 건으로
시행 이전보다 발생 건수나 부상자도 늘면서
실효성 논란을 낳고 있습니다.
