Prices for pork noodle soup at most of the restaurants along the so-called ‘noodle street’ in (일도) Ildo-2 dong are 7,000 won. That’s 29 percent higher compared with 2012. Customers say it’s overpriced, given that some restaurants use cheap imported pork.

‘Unreliable’ predictions from Jeju think tank
The Jemin Ilbo is reporting that critics say the Jeju Development Institute’s demand forecast for local accommodations is unreliable. According its most recent study, there will be a glut of guest rooms beginning in the year 2018, but just a few years ago it said the island would not have enough.

Free use of agricultural machinery may be phased out
Welfare recipients have been able to rent agricultural machinery for free. The provincial is considering reducing or discontinuing the service following the discovery that some of the equipment has been misused.

Local high school students ranked at the top nationally in the most recent college entrance exam, but that’s not reflected in the number of Jeju students who are accepted at Seoul National University. The Halla Ilbo is urging authorities to analyze the reasons for the disconnect and come up methods to fix it.

Park to attend Chinese celebration
Yonhap is reporting that President Park Geun-hye will make a three-day visit to China next month to attend its celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. The Blue House hasn’t said if she will attend a military parade in Beijing that is expected to highlight Japan's surrender in the war.

USFK colonel jumps from apartment in apparent suicide
A U.S. Army colonel jumped from an apartment in Seoul in an apparent suicide, police said Thursday. Yongsan Police Station said the 38-year-old was found dead earlier in the day in the parking lot of an apartment building in central Seoul.
