‘Albino ribbed gunnel’ found in Jeju
First discovery in country

Researchers have made the first discovery in Korea of the albino ribbed gunnel in Seogwipo.

A team from the Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea says it found the golden fish last month in a study of intertidal zone species around Seongsan.

When they looked at its DNA, they found it to be identical to the black ribbed gunnel, which lives along the coast of the peninsula. The researchers say the rare hue of the local fish is a result of its lack of melanin.



제주서 황금색 '알비노 베도라치' 첫 발견

국내에서는 처음으로 서귀포시 성산읍에서 몸이 전체적으로 황금색을 띤 알비노 그물베도라치가 발견됐습니다.

국립해양생물자원관 생물다양성변화연구팀은
지난달 실시한 서귀포시 성산읍 일대 조간대 웅덩이 생물다양성 조사에서 우리나라에서는 처음으로 몸통이 황금색을 띠는 알비노 그물베도라치를 발견했다고 밝혔습니다.

발견된 베도라치는 DNA 유전자 분석 결과 우리나라 연안에서 서식하는
그물베도라치와 같은 종으로 멜라닌 세포 합성 결핍으로 황금색을 띠게 됐다고 연구진은 설명했습니다.
