MERS fears cause spate of cancellations

International arrivals plummeted in July following a spate of cancellations caused by MERS fears.

According to the Korea Airports Corporation, about 20,180 non-Koreans arrived on international flights last month. That’s 83 percent fewer than in July 2014.

Chinese arrivals were down 83 percent and Japanese, 82 percent.

The corporation says the MERS outbreak on the mainland earlier in the summer prompted a lot of foreign tourists to cancel trips to Jeju beginning in July.

지난달 외국인 관광객 급감…지난해 83%↓

메르스 여파로 제주를 찾은 외국인 관광객이 크게 감소한 것으로 나타났습니다.

한국공항공사에 따르면 지난달 제주공항 국제선을 이용해 제주를 찾은 외국인은 2만 180여명으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 83퍼센트 줄어들었습니다.

국가별로는 중국인 관광객이 83%, 일본인 관광객이 82% 감소했습니다.

한국공항공사는 메르스 여파로 지난 6월부터 제주기점 국제선 항공기 운항이 취소됐기 때문인 것으로 분석하고 있습니다.
