Land purchases at odds with stated policies
Since 2007, the provincial government has bought 1.44 million square meters of land and reserved it for development. The paper contends that is not in line with the current administration’s “environment-first” policies.

Construction waste illegally dumped
Construction waste has been illegally dumped up on the mountain, causing groundwater contamination and other environmental problems. Jeju City and the provincial police are examining 40 tons of trash dumped in (용수리) Yongsu-ri and (낙천리) Nakcheon-ri, (한경면) Hangyeong-myeon.

Local middle and high schools started to purchase school uniforms for all freshmen this year, instead of requiring each student to pick one up individually. Some schools failed to sign contracts with companies, though, and that meant their students went without uniforms for weeks.

Yonhap is reporting that the militaries on both sides of the Korean border have relaxed their defense postures to peacetime levels following a landmark deal that defused tensions. South and North Korea had raised their alert levels after tension flared up over a landmine explosion and an ensuing artillery exchange earlier in August.

Park’s approval rating jumps to yearly high
President Park Geun-hye's job approval rating hit the highest level this year following the deal that defused military tensions with North Korea. A poll released by Realmeter showed 49.2 percent of respondents approved of the job Park is doing, up 8.2 percentage points from a week earlier.
