Consumer sentiment recovering
Local economy looking stronger

Things are looking up for the island economy, as consumer sentiment has begun to recover after it fell in the wake of the mainland MERS outbreak.

According to the Jeju branch of the Bank of Korea, the consumer sentiment index clocked in at 106 in August. That’s four points higher than both the previous month and the national average.

A consumer sentiment index higher than the benchmark 100 means respondents have an optimistic outlook for both their living conditions and the area economy, in general.

There was more good news, too. An index gauging consumer perception of the economy rose and a sub-index measuring views on economic prospects increased compared with the previous month. That means a significant number of locals think household economies are improving.

특히 현재 경기판단지수와 향후 경기전망지수가 지난달보다 오르며 가계 경제상황에 대한 인식이 호전된 것으로 분석됐습니다.

소비자심리지수는 소비자의 경제에 대한 전반적인 인식을 판단하는 지표로, 지수가 100보다 클 경우 경제상황에 대해 낙관적인 전망을 나타냅니다.
