A ban on development in urban greenbelt areas will be lifted in July 2020. The Halla Ilbo is concerned that may lead to the disappearance of green space because half of the greenbelt land is privately owned.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance has denied the province’s request for additional national funding for a firefighting helicopter. Ministry representatives say the island should use the money it has been granted to buy an older model.

Hyundai Motor workers vote for strike
Yonhap is reporting that unionized workers at Hyundai Motor have voted in favor of a strike. In a yes-or-no vote, nearly 78 percent of 48,000 unionists were in favor of the action.

‘Smartphone market growth to slow in 2016’
The global shipment of smartphones is anticipated to suffer a setback in 2016, industry data showed Thursday. Trendforce also says Chinese handset makers are expected to further cement their foothold in the mid- to low-end segment.
