Mandarin growers encouraged to thin out fruit
Officials warn glut could put downward pressure on prices
In more news from the citrus industry, mandarin orange growers have begun thinning out their crops in order to ensure that only high quality fruit makes it to market.
The administration, agricultural organizations like Nonghyup, and growers are conducting a campaign through October 10th to encourage more people to toss out their substandard fruit.
Researchers from a fruit survey committee expect a relatively large harvest this year, including smaller fruit. That’s why they argue it is essential to thin it out manually.
Agricultural officials say that a failure to get rid of lower quality fruit could lead to a glut and drive down prices for all growers.
