Seongsan residents expressed shock and concern Tuesday after their community was named as the location of Jeju’s second airport. The Halla Ilbo says that during an afternoon meeting with the governor, they expressed disappointment that they were not given any prior notice.

The possibility of a building a second airport was first raised in 1990, when the government conducted a feasibility study on developing Jeju International Airport. More than two decades later, the idea gained ground in 2014 when projections were made that the current facility would reach full capacity by 2018.
